If spectacular scenery is what you want, Cameroon has everything from beaches and savannah to active volcanoes and lush rainforest. Getting around can be variable with some well-maintained roads, rail travel and a good bus service linking the major cities, but further afield, the roads are in a poorer state of repair, so you’ll need to be feeling adventurous to explore away from the main cities. If you’re going for the food, you can expect an array of flavours, such as cassava, plantains, yams, rice, puff-puffs (doughnuts) and Accra bananas along with more Western dishes such as pizza and pork chops. Yaounde has many restaurants to try, such as the Mahima for Indian and Asian food, or Socrat for Lebanese, European, Italian and African cuisine. You really can’t go wrong for tourist attractions, with must-see sights like the sultan’s palace in Foumban, the Limbe Wildlife Centre, Waza National Park or browse the day away at the Marche du Mfoundi (market) in Yaounde.
