Libya might not be the first place that comes to mind when you think about Greek and Roman remains, but this country really does have some incredible sites. Explore Leptis Magna, which is a Unesco World Heritage site. Cyrene has a temple of Apollo, Roman baths, a theatre, forum and so much more to explore; and Sabratha is a must-see, with its Roman Museum, Judicial Basilica and Curia. For history and architecture buffs, there is more to see in Tripoli, with the Jamahiriya Museum and its incredible collection of classical art, the Libyan Studies Centre, the Red Castle Museum, and the Old British and French Consulates. There is even more to take in, but we’d need to write a book to cover it all. Venturing away from the cities, the Libyan Desert is a stunning spectacle, with its oases and the massifs at the centre of the desert and further south for an experience you’ll never forget.
