A strip of land found between Ghana and Benin on the Gulf of Guinea, the African nation of Togo may look small but it certainly has much to offer. Beautiful beaches lined with palm trees are a regular sight in this hugely interesting country, where visitors are also able to immerse themselves in the lush greenery of forests or experience life in the savannah during a safari in one of the several national parks. History can be seen wherever you turn in the country, particularly if you visit sites including the stunning mud tower-houses found at the settlement of Koutammakou, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Furthermore, traditions and the mix of religions related to the country – including voodoo no less – are often celebrated at a number of vibrant festivals through the year. It may not be an obvious holiday destination, but Togo offers a diverse and enticing experience for anyone who visits.
