The desert kingdom of Jordan may sit in an area of general unrest in the Middle East, close to Syria, Israel and Iraq, but it is regarded by many as a relative oasis of calm in the region. In terms of what it is famous for, it is hard to get past the stunning ancient architecture and wonder of the Nabataean city of Petra. The renowned archaeological site is truly beautiful and well worth the trek out to visit. Other landmarks include Mount Nebo, which the Hebrew Bible states is the place where Moses gazed upon the Promised Land of Canaan, and of course the magnificent Dead Sea. For something a little more relaxing, the country also boasts a number of high-quality holiday resorts to unwind in. Much has also been done to protect the ecology in the country and a number of nature reserves including wetlands attract visitors keen to see more of the country’s landscape.
