Situated at the entrance to the Persian Gulf, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is a truly spectacular holiday destination. In the last century alone, the UAE has undergone exponential growth, transformed from its quaint fishing villages and barren desert into a metropolitan nation, oozing with glitz and glamour. The main tourist hot-spots in the UAE are Dubai and Abu Dhabi, both of which are home to some of the most iconic skyscrapers and hotels in the 21st century, as well as pristine shopping malls, mouth-watering restaurants and exclusive nightclubs. There's definitely an air of exclusivity and luxury around these cities, with streets lined with Bentley and Rolls Royce supercars. Dubai's most impressive features are its 7-star hotel, Burj Al Arab and the Atlantis Resort, which is designed to look like a palm tree from the sky – such is the opulent, eccentric nature of modern-day UAE. The UAE includes five other emirates alongside Abu Dhabi and Dubai, so if the helter-skelter pace of life proves too much you can get away and unwind at the coastal resort of Fujairah or head into the Hajar Mountains in Ras al-Khamiah.
