When it comes to natural beauty, few other countries in South America are as blessed as Venezuela. Situated on the north coast on the Caribbean, it is a country of tropical deltas, lush grasslands, high mountains, stunning islands and golden beaches. The capital Caracas is big, busy, and definitely on the edgy side, but you can’t fail to be impressed by its setting, overlooked by towering, jungle-clad peaks. There are also some great museums here, such as the Museo de Bellas Artes, and the Museo de Art Contemporaneo. The city of Merida is an adventure hot spot, specialising in paragliding, while Los Roques is an archipelago of some 300 islands offering world-class snorkelling, diving, and fishing. Venezuela’s signature attraction is Angel Falls, the world’s highest waterfall at 979 metres. There is no road access, so expect to take a small plane to Canaima, and a boat to the falls from there.
